Was It Worth It, Mary Jo? Huff Po Writer thinks Mary Jo's Life Was Not As Important as Teddy's Career.

Was It ‘Worth It,’ Mary Jo?
by
Guy Benson

The final line of this Huffpo column, written by someone named Melissa Lafsky, speaks for itself.

...It doesn't automatically make someone (aka, me) a Limbaugh-loving, aerial-wolf-hunting NRA troll for asking what Mary Jo Kopechne would have had to say about Ted's death, and what she'd have thought of the life and career that are being (rightfully) heralded.

Who knows — maybe she'd feel it was worth it.

Wow.  Just . . . wow.

The cruelty of people is staggering.  I don't see how they can live with that kind of mean inside them.

I agree.  I doubt if Mary Jo's family feels quite as OK about her death as this Melissa person seems to feel.  I'm sorry, but this author is a poor excuse for a human being.

This person was sick in the head.  Of course Mary Jo wouldn't think it was worth it.

I'm surprised that there is such revulsion for the article and its premise by HuffPuffians.  Usually they can't put two and two together.no  Here is a response that I agreed with:

"Giglawyer

The problem is that Kennedy's "irresponsibility" wasn't a tragedy. It was a crime. And he got away with it. ANd that bothers the very core of people who belive that we should all be treated equally under the law. You act as if no one else but Ted Kennedy could have done the things that he did in the Senate. I suggest you are wrong. I suggest that perhaps, ahd Keenedy actually accepted responsibility for what he ahd done, and done somehting else with his life, it is entirely possible that someone else could have fille dhis shoes and done an even better job.

I would like to say the article writer's comments surprise me but honestly the media is so far in the gutter that the stence of everything they write leaves me physically ill. And I, too ask - WHERE THE HELL ARE THE WOMEN'S GROUPS??? I'll tell you where they are in most cases - too busy heralding Oasshat for all the wonderful things they they he is doing.

When in the world will we as women learn that we have to stand together, fight together, and join forces against this kind of crap?

I went in and read this for myself, and read about 1/2 of the posts before I got pissed. I noticed a pattern though. Everyone either defends Kennedy by insisting he "made up" for his youth and stupidity by doing good works, or, they punt by saying "Well Bush authorized torture" as a defense. I'm quite frankly, at a loss to explain how anyone can defend what Kennedy did. Bush has nothing to do with Mary Jo Kapechne. Whether he authorized torture on prisoners, has nothing to do with Mary Jo Kapechne. Someone posted that Laura Bush had an accident that resulted in a death, I don't know if that is true, but if she did, that still has nothing to do with Mary Jo Kapechne. But I guess that is the best they can come up with. How else do you excuse the inexcusable?

There was an accident and someone died but from what I understand Laura did not leave the scene of the accident.  There is a difference.
