Rendell: Obama shouldn't do 'View' (Politico - 7/27/10)

Pennsylvania Democratic Gov. Ed Rendell advised President Barack Obama against appearing later this week on “The View,” encouraging the president to only do “serious shows.”

“I think the president should be accessible, should answer questions that aren't pre-screened, but I think there should be a little bit of dignity to the presidency,” Rendell said during an appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”

The daytime talk show announced Monday that Obama will be taping an interview with the four female hosts that will air Thursday. Obama last appeared on the program during the presidential election. Vice President Joe Biden was on “The View” in April.

Rendell said the talk show did not have the required stature to host the president, comparing “The View” to “The Jerry Springer Show,” which frequently devolves into onstage brawls.

“I wouldn't put him on Jerry Springer either,” Rendell said. “It is different a little bit. But I think the president of the United States has to go on serious shows.”

I agree with "Big Ed" on this one. The View is the female version of Jerry Springer...at least when you can hear what any of them is saying over the who can outshout the other one. I cannot phathom what Obama thinks he is going to gain by doing this. Will the American housewife or the American unemployed watching swoon over his "charm" on the show? Or will they be thinking what I would be thinking? Two wars, Gulf crisis, Iran building nukes, major leaks of war documents that threaten our troops, no paycheck or fear of losing one's paycheck, fear of losing one's home and his response is to go on The View?

5 theories why Obama is going on 'The View' (TheWeek.com 7/27/10)

================
Of course, it is all for recovery from fiasco and ratings increase.  [BTW, I dont like the "no brainer" reference in that article.]

Next up, POTUS on Dr.Phil!  He has good ratings for his show too!!!  Who cares if it is unprecedented and unpresidential?  wink Who knows? It might even be good for the country! LOL  biggrin

I'm sorry, but I don't think The View has enough class to be compared even to Jerry Springer. For a sitting POTUS to appear on such a program is absurd. Rendell is right about this.

You just have to wonder how this all came about - or have I just overlooked that tidbit. I mean, were the view people just sitting around discussing future guests they might invite - maybe Mel Gibson to discuss his latest scandal, or Lindsay, after her release, to discuss why she was stupid enough to write F You on her nails for the judge - and someone suggested.. Let's invite Barack?! That seems kind of a stretch. My guess is that someone from BO's damage control team dropped a little hint to the right TV execs that the Great Barack might be willing to appear on the view. Can't you just hear one of the whiz kids in Obama's court saying...."Damn! people in this country take things like war and environmental disasters way too seriously. Barack needs to be on a program that's fun and entertaining - like The View".

The View women practically threw themselves his feet when Obama was on the show during the campaign. I can only imagine how thrilled and excited they'll be this time. Truly sickening.
