This is the third time I am replying to this thread. OK this is an interesting article. Its got some truths in it but you can tell it was written by a white guy who has no idea what in the hell he is talking about. Yes there is a lot of truth to this article. The incarcartion rate is causing a lot of problems for black women mostly because they end up raising children alone. This article implys that black women are desperate for a man that they will do anything to "win" a man and yes some black women like some white women and asian women will do anything to have a man even steal someone elses. Black women are finding people there is an increase in black women who are dating men outside of their race or they become bi. When black women get older they began to depend on other single mothers there is a "club" and single women regardless of race help each other. Now to discuss the incarcation rates of black males is always a good thing to discuss but lets keep it real don't make up crap. The problems with high incarcation rates for drug crimes or three strike laws are that unfair add to that higher homicide rates in the hood and neighborhoods where the only way to make money is to sell drugs. This adds to the black woman's burdens because often we must explain to our children that daddy was shot over wearing the wrong color or being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Daddy is serving time because the state and country thinks that putting men in prison for life is the way to solve our problems. These laws should be overturned because they are wrong and yes they are racist.
I hear ya, strange old friend called me, she's been divorced over 15 years, never had children, didn't want them, and she told me that I wouldn't believe what standards men want to hold women today..........She doesn't have that support as women who have children do, and feels very lonely, with only her work, and her home. She kept telling me I was the lucky one, having a husband, and children, and grandchildren. It made me feel a little sad, and hard for me to put myself in her shoes.
HGM- I've been reading up at solitary watch, and support their efforts. Give it a look over.
70% of women in prison for drug related offenses, and the entire justice system needs a overhaul.
The drug laws, especially, are counter-productive, discriminatory, ineffective. Incarceration is not the answer - unless the criminal is a big-time drug supplier.
