ACLU to Obama: Change or more of the same? (Raw Story 3/7/10)

The American Civil Liberties Union has never treated the Obama administration with kid gloves, but with their latest ad buy it's become increasingly clear that their patience for the continuance of some Bush-era policies has run quite thin.

"What will it be Mr. President?" the ACLU asks in a full-page New York Times advertisement published Sunday. "Change or more of the Same?" The ad also features a portrait of Obama that morphs into Bush.

The ACLU's images of the subtle transition between presidents is filtered and lacking in detail, and spans just four frames. However, it appears to be a take-off of a protest image that circulated Facebook and some progressive blogs late last year, showing a similar transition in eerie detail.

A similar series of images has been up at Hillaryis44.org for over a year now, maybe even longer than that.

No doubt plenty of ACLU members also were strong Obama supporters. I'm sure his performance has been a disappointment to many.

I actually used to belong to ACLU. But, some of their actions are so frivolous - so out there, I just couldn't hang with them. Plus, did anyone hear the ACLU say a word when either Hillary Clinton or Sarah Palin were being targeted as objects of sexism and misogyny on national television. Even if they didn't have a role to play, you would think that anyone who cared about human and civil rights would have at least have commented on the matter.

It is only a matter of time before each supporting organization realizes that they were fed sky-high promises. It was simply not deliverable.. you just cannot be everything to everyone in the POTUS office.  Can't say they should have known.. rather can say, he, the candidate should have known to not promise that way to everyone.

Jen, I agree - Hillaryis44.org has done a good job of exposing each fallen promise.  I wish I was comfortable blogging there.. I just do not like the format where home page gives so much content.. I end up reading the home page.. but when I go to the thread, I have to re-read the article that I read a few articles ago and then all the comments. So, I do not think I ever joined there. I much prefer the forum format anyway. I do like the Hillaryis44.org Admin's blogs.. they are fantastic.  Thanks.

I read Hillary is 44 (the comments as well as the articles), but I only post occasionally. I'm more of a "forum" person like you, Sanders. I like threaded topics where I can come back the next day or the next week or even months later and easily find what I'm looking for. It's hard to do that with blog comments, especially when there are 50-100 of them after every article.

Yes, likewise.  Also even with a blended home page+forum, if the home page carries CONTENT (vs. headings only) from the forum, I get uncomfortable in posting articles (starting threads)... UNLESS the home page carries ORIGINAL writing which hillaryis44 does. Something to keep in mind if we ever go to an independent forum format - I would not endorse pushing thread starter's post to home page.

Lets try to stay on topic. We kind of drifted off topic for a bit.

Thanks.

ACLU is going to have a hard time finding anything that Pres.Obama has done - so far anyway - that they can say is on their agenda. Imagine that!

Again, as I said, Pres. Obama promising everything to everyone with the ubiquitous word "Hope" is going to come to haunt him in the posterior! LOL

The only "HOPE" we have now is to hopefully vote him out of office in 2012.

Interesting original topic, thanks for posting this Jen.
