Even Super Bowl will be political

So much for football being the great uniter.

So much for not worrying about anything on Super Bowl Sunday other than whether to go to the bathroom during the commercials or during the game.

So much for, well, enjoying Super Bowl Sunday.

In case you hadn't heard, the culture wars are coming to the Super Bowl.

If early buzz is any indicator, the most talked about Super Bowl ad this year won't be Bud Light or Miller Light, Geico or Pepsi. Instead, we'll get 30-seconds of a college football player explaining how his mom didn't get him aborted.

Abortion in a Super Bowl ad. I can already picture the awkward silence that will fall over living rooms across the country.

Tim Tebow, famous from his Florida Gators quarterback days, will play the role of pro-life pitchman on Sunday in an ad financed by James Dobson's Focus on the Family. The ad focuses on Pam Tebow's 1987 pregnancy, when she refused to heed a doctor's advice to have an abortion when she became sick during a mission trip to the Philippines.

As you know, Superbowl is a largely male audience.

The goal of the ad is to address the male audience to influence women's choice.

Do you know what percent of America's adult male watch the Superbowl?

In general, because of game parties, the number of actual watching any Superbowl is significantly larger than the number of TV's on. My observation: Typically even in parties, mostly men watch the game and women are talking amongst themselves except in the very interesting segments of the game. It will be interesting statistics to see after the fact to find the exact number of adult male that is estimated to have watched - not sure they can get that breakdown - there may be total numbers.


I would prefer that the final choice on pregnancy is left with the woman having to live with the consequences of the mega decision.
