Why I Regret Voting For President Obama

By Jill Dorson

I am a registered Independent. I voted for Barack Obama. And for that, I am sorry.

I'm not sorry for you. I'm sorry for me. Because I voted for Obama for me, not for you. I voted for hope and change and all the intangibles that Obama was peddling in the wake of the financial crisis, Sarah Palin, Sept. 11 and all the other ills that shook our country in the last decade. I wanted something new. Something different. What I got was, I suppose, exactly what I voted for - a spin doctor. And not a very good one at that.

Before John McCain unwittingly picked a tabloid-magazine cover girl for his running mate, I was leaning toward going Republican this time around. I did the second time Bush was on the ballot and I very nearly did the first time, too. But as soon as Palin climbed out of her igloo and onto the national scene, well, there was no turning back for me.

You see, I felt my choice was to risk McCain dropping dead and letting the world's most well-known hockey mom run this country, or to believe that Obama would surround himself with educated people and that he was smart enough to take their advice.

I was right. He is smart enough to seek counsel. I'm just outraged at the counsel he's seeking these days. Key financial leaders who are tax cheats come immediately to mind, but as the recent terror attack made clear to me, the idea that a president of the most powerful nation in the world could think it was OK to have a Homeland Security chief with such a loose grasp of what terrorism is and how it works is troubling.

I was right there laughing when George W. Bush struggled with the names of countries around the world early in his tenure. And while my knowledge of foreign policy is limited, I thought Bush's was lousy, too. But after Sept. 11, I saw a man with no charisma step up and fight for this country, its citizens and its freedom. Bush became a leader.

Seven years later, I am ashamed to say that I was blinded by charisma. Obama was so convincing that I stopped caring about what he knew and started getting caught up in the euphoria. Imagine having a president who came from a broken home, who had money troubles, who did grass-roots community service? A young father. The first black president. It pains me to admit I got caught up in the hoopla.

But McCain made it easy. He's a smart man, I don't doubt that. But between picking Palin, suggesting that the first debates be delayed and, well, picking Palin, he made it easy for Obama to win. As Election Day drew near, all Obama had to do was keep his mouth shut to win.

More . . .

Please discuss

There is a lot of truth to this article.  MANY of my friends would not vote for McCain after his VP selection due to her lack of experience and to a lesser degree her conservative views.

This author fell for the Tina Frey impersonation of Palin, not the actual person. Palin had a track record she just didn't spend the time to investigate. And she obviously didn't investigate Obama's record either. Am I glad she has woken up to the joke we always knew he was? Sure. But her blasting of Palin shows she still hasn't learned her lesson. I've no sympathy for her.

what a joke... and what an idiot... she says she fell for the lies told to her about the fraud and YET, she still is not willing to realise this same MSM that she no longer trust told her lies about Sarah.

I mean when I realised in 2008 how the media lied about Hillary, since I no longer trusted the MSM, I no longer trusted what they said about Sarah... or for anything else for that matter.

this woman is an idiot.

its like if a person tells you ... go to this restaurant, its really good.. you go, and its a horrible place... and then you regret listening to that said person, why would you trust their judgement about anything else for that matter?!??!?

She is still blasting Palin.  I guess she doesn't realize that the media is involved with a conspiracy to trash and villify strong women like Clinton and Palin.  I guess she was just to stupid to realize this.  Well cry in your milk stupid fool and yes you do owe us and apology your vote put that idiot in the White House NOW you want to cry your pathetic eyes out.

Good, bad or otherwise, as an observer, I see that many did not vote for McCain because of Palin.  And, even though they now regret voting for Obama, I have to wonder how much more they are ready to embrace Palin, when she has gained no appreciable increase in experience, and her situation regarding her daughter became worse since November last year (seeing it from their viewpoint.. then it was a happily betrothed and now there is a kid without a dad and a child support battle in progress).

I was further disappointed in the latest clip of Palin and daughter that we saw on Oprah; the snippet that was aired on FOX News and got 'dissected' for bodylanguage (declaration that it was sadness seen in both ladies) was not favorable to Palin despite new hairdo.  A kitchen background is not what we want to see anymore; we have already seen that. A family background is known. We need to see her working as a professional, gaining experience, credibility, RESPECT, in order to win the Centrists.

I am increasingly wondering about this because the conservative end of GOP is very energized about Palin.. and conservatives tend to stay home if their candidate is not on the ballot.  This is something that has begun to bother me as I am increasingly not able to see Palin as a strong candidate.

Palin failed to follow the role-model Hillary presented for "famous" women wanting to further their political careers.  When Hillary won her Senate seat in 2000, she didn't go into the Senate as a "rock star".  She laid low, did her homework and by her second term, was one of the most respected Senators.

Palin needs to get out of the "limelight" and instead get herself under the "study light."

I almost get the feeling she is just happy to finally make use of her journalism degree.  No harm in that....took me 25 years before mine actually did me any good.

But the nation's electorate is swinging back to the center again.  She stands no chance in 2012 at this point.

I wish her well and have no ill feelings towards her.  She is just not qualified anymore than Obama was.

The mention that it was Palin that 'helped' obama win the presidency is, real.
As I have said before, my step-daughter is a part of a very large group called, "Women against Sarah Palin".  Hillary does not have a group like this.

It's such a sad world we live in when people believe what they see on TV.

I lost most of my friends from defending Palin.  My step-daughter and I haven't spoken in a year and a half.

The unbelievable angry from women when I mentioned that Palin was more qualify to be president than any other running for office (because of her experience as a mayor and governor), this is how it went:  "Destiny, have you lost your mind?  You are nuts.  Sarah Palin is a horrible person, she is my worst nightmare.  If she is elected, I'm leaving this country."  Then I would say,  "she is not running for president, McCain is".  This was their reply, "McCain is going to be dead and we would be stuck with the devil".
Remember, this is all being said with the most hateful faces and spitting mouths.

People were brainwashed by the media and there is no turning back for Sarah Palin.

One of my favorite angry responses I received from friends and family about Sarah was this:  I'd say, "you have been brainwashed by the media, they edit things to make Sarah look bad".  Their reply, "I have two eyes and a brain and I can see for myself that Sarah Palin is stupid, dumb, animal killer, clothes hoarder and the worst kind of hick."

Gee, it sounds like someone has been watching the main stream media.

John Zeigler made a movie called, "Media Malpractice" and highlights Sarah Palin's media image.  I felt really sorry for her while watching this DVD, because John just handed her a laptop with obama supporters blasting her.  Sarah Palin was speechless.  Even Sarah did not realize how much she was hated by the average TV viewing audience.  Even bright people like Tina Fey are clearly not thinking straight.

We will continue to see obama voter's regrets, but not one person will say that they made a mistake about Sarah.

IMO, if the republican party picks Sarah as a front runner, it will mean one thing, they want obama another 4 years.

The media went after Palin the same way they did Hillary.  What probably was the biggest shock to me was the level of misogyny by WOMEN journalists.  I can't help but wonder if it was the "dream" of Obama.....or the jealousy of Hillary...and to an extent Palin.

They both achieved "firsts" that none of these so-called journalists will ever attain.

Shame on them all.

I also don't understand the Palin hate.  However, I haven't lost anyone because of her.  My family some of them stopped talking to me because I refused to put an unqualified man in the oval office and I didn't give a rats azz  that he was the first black man.
I spent most of my adult life fighting to make sure a black person could become President and they all know that and for me not to vote for the first black man was something they couldn't understand.
I feel the same way about women I refuse to vote for an unqualified woman or a woman who made it to the top by backstabbing other women i.e Nancy Pelosi.  I like Sarah and although I don't think she has enough experience yet I feel like the media has tried to destroy her for no other reason then she is a woman.

I see, Palady is the Magazine Cover Girl..............if that is so then it makes Obama, dare I say the Cover Up Man? Throw in the fear of dying (McCain) and a little ageism to ice it over.

Lesson Over.
