Monserrate Will Face Sanction Votes

Published: January 12, 2010

ALBANY — A special New York State Senate committee weighing the fate of Senator Hiram Monserrate is set to recommend that the Senate vote on two resolutions to sanction him, including one that would force him from office, people with knowledge of the committee’s plans said Tuesday.

While the committee will stop short of recommending how senators should vote, legislators said they believe Mr. Monserrate, who was convicted of misdemeanor assault in connection with dragging his companion down a hallway during a December 2008 dispute, would not survive if the expulsion resolution reaches the Senate floor.

If he is removed, Mr. Monserrate would become the first member of the State Legislature to be expelled in nearly 90 years.

The committee will also strongly denounce Mr. Monserrate, a Democrat from Queens, saying his actions tarnished the Senate as an institution and demonstrated that he is unfit to hold office, according to draft language being circulated among committee members.

The committee’s recommendation for an expulsion vote, which will be included in a lengthy report on Mr. Monserrate’s assault case, is expected to be announced as early as Thursday, said people with knowledge of the report’s contents who did not want to be identified because all nine committee members had yet to agree on the final wording as of late Tuesday.

As part of a compromise to win the support of all nine committee members, the report will also suggest that senators vote on a separate less severe resolution to censure Mr. Monserrate and strip him of his seniority and committee chairmanship.

It remains up to the Senate Democratic leader, John Sampson, to determine whether either resolution comes to a vote. A spokesman for Mr. Sampson had no comment on the report or whether he would put the resolutions to a vote. “The report has not been finalized, and we do not comment on drafts,” said the spokesman, Austin Shafrin.

I hope he gets handed his pink slip.  The judge did the entire state a disservice by only convicting him of a misdemeanor.  He friggin' slashed his girlfriend's face, dragged her down the hall (captured on video), and then drove her to a hospital outside of his district so he wouldn't be recognized.  PIG with a capital P.

Sounds like this creep needs a visit from HMG and her homegirls.  He really slashed her face and they call it a Domestic dispute.  Please this man needs to be in jail.
