Note to women when Hillary breaks that ceiling SEXISM will not end it may be better but it won't end we can't let down our guard.

Wise and true words, Hmg. The lack of outrage expressed about the sexism against Hillary and Sarah Palin in 2008 is just one indication of how little the powers that be care about sexism. It's as if it's not a real issue to most of the political community as well as the media.

I have been surprised at the willingness of some AA leaders to forgive or even dismiss as nothing the comment Reid made. I work with an African American lady who is very pro-Obama, though she likes Hillary too, and was unaware of some of the dirty-dealing that resulting in Obama being handed the nomination that Hillary actually won. My co-worker is a smart person and very proud of her race, as she should be. I was very surprised today when she said that Reid's comment meant nothing, that it shouldn't be compared in any way to the Trent Lott situation, and that she would continue to totally support him. We had to agree to disagree.

Yes, freespirit, that is what I call "selective angst".. That is not leadership; it is convenience behavior ... political expediency... at its worst.

If a member of a socio-economic group is being treated disadvantageously simply because of their membership in that socio-economic group all should stand up to denounce such disregard. It is inhuman and it is wrong. Racism and sexism are two wrongs coming from the same faulty notion that one is superior or has a notion of what works/does not work because they know something about that socio-economic group.

I hope those who rise up to defend against racism similarly rise up to defend against sexism.

She's right the two can't be compared. Trent Lott said a nice thing about an racist man. He did not say anything about AAs he said something nice to an old man who was racist. Harry Reid said all black people talk with a Negro dialect. One said something racist and the other did not.
She defended him because he was a democrat. The Democratic Party is gonna be the death to black people and still they love them some Democrats. The ghetto is moving away from this though.

I think they come from the same place of self of superiority.. There is something very common between racism and sexism.. But yes, they have different historic backdrop, but the sense of superiority is the same.
