The 14-9 vote in the Senate Finance Committee sets up a historic debate on the Senate floor and moves health care overhaul closer to reality than it has been for decades.
Sen. Olympia Snowe of Maine was the only Republican to join 13 committee Democrats in voting "yes."
The 10-year, $829-billion plan approved Tuesday is aimed at extending coverage to millions more Americans, holding down costs and improving health care for all.
The Finance Committee was the last of five congressional committees to act. It produced a centrist-leaning compromise bill.
The committee's chairman described the vote as an "opportunity to make history."
Democrat Max Baucus told colleagues that it's "time to get the job done" on President Barack Obama's top domestic priority.
The legislation emerging from the Senate Finance Committee is seen as being the best starting point for a compromise plan that could win approval on the Senate floor.

snowe is a effing moron... this nonexistant bill is going to cut out 400 BILLION from Medicare... and the rest will be paid for with taxes on EVERYONE!!!!
and BTW.. the "cadillac" plans that will be taxed.. guess what a "cadillac" plan is? plans that include things like yearly physicals and chloresterol tests.. yes.. those are considered "cadillac" plans under this chitty bill, and WILL BE TAXED... so most Americans have a "Cadillac" plan.

Yes, I'm sure they've been "addressing her concerns" - wonder how much that cost?
HOW CAN THEY VOTE FOR A BILL THEY HAVEN'T EVEN READ?!! I'm all for affordable health care for everyone, but I don't know that this is the way to do it!
