THE ENTIRE WORLD HAS GONE CRAZY!!!  (And YES I am screaming!!!!).  What in the living HELL???  We are now handing out Nobel Prizes to encourage people to do things?  I am absolutely, positively stunned beyond belief and truly believe I am living in some alternate universe.  nonononono  I seriously want to just sit down and cry.

"President Barack Obama won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize on Friday in a stunning decision designed to encourage his initiatives to reduce nuclear arms, ease tensions with the Muslim world and stress diplomacy and cooperation rather than unilateralism."

I honestly couldn't believe this was real. I checked every single news blog and it was everywhere so I guess it is. This is pure crap. BS.  No one will every take the peace prize seriously after this.  Nominated just 11 days after he was elected?  Unbelievable. Just unbelievable.

I'm embarrassed for BO in a way.  That's difficult to explain.  My initial reaction when I heard this was shock, but now I can't even imagine what his cronies could say about this.  Everyone is rolling their eyes.  It is embarrassingly apparent that BO did not deserve the Nobel prize.  There is no rationale for this, except that the Nobel committee wanted to pile on awards for this man who has done nothing.  I would expect an Emmy nomination for MO for her appearance on Sesame Street.  Don't laugh.  If BO can win the Nobel Peace Prize then MO can easily win an Emmy.  Be afraid people, be very afraid.  It's official.  We are surrounded by a lot of insane individuals.  The world has gone totally loco.

Come on, we remember when he was on the campaign trail in Prague in Aug 2008..........he
said to them he would reduce our arsenals if he was elected President. Then he became
president, and bombed Pakistan, bombed Afgan.

This is an insult to my intelligence, but more so to those who have spent their entire lives
to earn this award.

The Big O is a layup for a let down.

I'll tell you something else particulary about the Norwegians, they were totally against Hillary, and when they read about Puma's going for McCain, they expressed themselves saying they saw more in Obama than the other candidates.

They teamed up with our Media, and cheered for Obama.

This is seriously going to be the FUNNIEST day in the history of the world, reading all the comments about this travesty.  It's sooooo ridiculous, you can really only laugh!biggrin

I thought it was surely a joke, when I first saw a post about it.  But is this any more surprising than the installation of o-ineligible?  Much less, actually.

What it is is the BIZARRO Nobel Peace Prize, when you get the award for DISCOURAGING PEACE.  Remember, this is the BIZARRO PRESIDENT - everything is the opposite of what it normally is!

That's because Europeans can be incredibly arrogant.  Of course they would know who the best president, social policy, or course of action should be in the U.S..

Whom did Obama "beat" to get this prize??

Ya'll will NEVER believe this!  From Citizen Wells commenter:

[Sandy]……let us examine who he beat out:

Sima Samar, women’s rights activist in Afghanistan: “With dogged persistence and at great personal risk, she kept her schools and clinics open in Afghanistan even during the most repressive days of the Taliban regime, whose laws prohibited the education of girls past the age of eight. When the Taliban fell, Samar returned to Kabul and accepted the post of Minister for Women’s Affairs.”

Ingrid Betancourt: French-Colombian ex-hostage held for six years.

“Dr. Denis Mukwege: Doctor, founder and head of Panzi Hospital in Bukavu, Democratic Republic of Congo. He has dedicated his life to helping Congolese women and girls who are victims of gang rape and brutal sexual violence.”

Handicap International and Cluster Munition Coalition: “These organizations are recognized for their consistently serious efforts to clean up cluster bombs, also known as land mines. Innocent civilians are regularly killed worldwide because the unseen bombs explode when stepped upon.”

“Hu Jia, a human rights activist and an outspoken critic of the Chinese government, who was sentenced last year to a three-and-a-half-year prison term for ‘inciting subversion of state power.’”

“Wei Jingsheng, who spent 17 years in Chinese prisons for urging reforms of China’s communist system. He now lives in the United States.”

If he had one ounce of dignity, decency or testicular fortitude - he would refuse this prize. I'm sure as not holding my breath on that one. But, he has to know this is a crock.

I'm guessing this is to assuage his hurt pride over not getting the freakin' olympics. Heaven knows Obama should never be denied anything he can pay for, extort, take by force, or manipulate from anyone.

Great!  Now O will be even more deified than he has already been.  Just what we need.

I simply cannot believe people cannot see through the rhetoric to the empty suit O really is and that they believe he will accomplish his empty promises.  He has done NOTHING, ZILCH, NADA except spend money we don't have, destroy our economy, put down our country every chance he gets, and put thousands upon thousands out of work.

Nobel Prize, my a$$!

That seems the most likely reason to me.

The world hates us. He goes all over the world apologizing. An embarrassment to me, yet to the world, maybe they see this man as someone who will finally bow down to them, to the Muslim world, Islam, ect. To them, maybe they see him finally destroying the world power that is America to just one more socialist country.

Yeah, Alex, I would have rather that woman from Afghanistan to have won this award because, you know, she actually deserves it. All this will do is to feed Obama's enormous ego some more, one of the major themes of his life is being rewarded for doing nothing. Stupid committee.

Surprise from all over:

"Obama’s ‘Premature Canonization’ by Nobel Panel Draws Criticism"
http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601070&sid=a4sHGXuIqwu4

...The honor is a “premature canonization,” said Fred Greenstein, a historian at Princeton University. “It seems to me that it is an embarrassment for the Nobel process.”...

...“The prize is coming a little bit early,” Guenther Oettinger, leader of the German state of Baden-Wuerttemberg, told reporters in Berlin. “He’s at the beginning of his work, not the end.”...

...“If they needed to choose a symbol, a hope rather than someone who has already accomplished peace with results, it’s rather worrying,” said Nicole Bacharan, a researcher at France’s National Foundation of Political Sciences. “It means there has been little done for peace in the world.”...

...In rare accord, both sides in the Israeli-Palestinian dispute questioned the award, saying the 48-year-old president has yet to fulfill his promise as a conciliator.

Nothing has changed in the Obama administration’s policies from previous U.S. governments, except statements, promises and hopes,” said Fawzi Barhoum, a spokesman for Hamas, the Palestinian faction that runs the Gaza Strip.

For Efraim Inbar, a politics professor at Bar-Ilan University near Tel Aviv, the prize shows that “the Nobel judges are unable to distinguish between words and deeds.”...

...Obama’s foreign policy “so far has brought a mixed result in Afghanistan,” saidAhmed Nader Nadery, a member of the Afghan Independent Human Rights Commission. “Afghans worry that his pragmatism may lead him to reduce the U.S. commitment as it becomes more politically difficult.”...

Lara,

This is a good find.

Really this is truly embarrassing.

I really would like to know what Hillary said to Bill after she heard about this.  I bet she is disgusted and has to keep it to herself.

Why am I feeling so ashamed? It's BHO and the NPP committee that should be hanging their heads. So many good people passed over for a total zero in accomplishments. This says it all:

For Efraim Inbar, a politics professor at Bar-Ilan University near Tel Aviv, the prize shows that “the Nobel judges are unable to distinguish between words and deeds.”...

Yes, that makes sense.  This award had everything to do with politics.  I also think the timeline was interesting.  BO was nominated a few days after he took office and the committee apparently didn't come to a final decision until this Monday.  I think the Nobel Peace Price was BO's consolation award for looking foolish after the IOC's decision on the 2016 Olympics.  What is even more astounding is that those 5 Norwegians on the Peace Prize committee didn't even consider the fact that their choice would make BO look even more foolish, not to mention themselves.  There is no way the Left can spin this without sounding really dumb.

I was told today that Nobel Peace Prize winners receive a million dollars, is that true?
And, I was told that this fraud is the 3rd sitting president in history to receive this joke of an award (Woodrow Wilson and Teddy(?)Roosevelt).  And, I was told that 'they' were just sticking it to Bush, WTF?
This was all told to me by one person who thinks ovomit is pretty keen and everything (forever) "bad" is Bush's fault.

WHEN WILL THIS NIGHTMARE END??????????

HOW CAN 'ANYONE' THINK THAT THIS WAS A GOOD IDEA???????

GOD HELP US.

Analysis: A great prize, but will it help goals?

AP
President Barack Obama walks to the podium in the Rose Garden of the White HouseAP – President Barack Obama walks to the podium in the Rose Garden of the White House in Washington, Friday, …

WASHINGTON – Now that he's Nobel laureate Barack Obama, will he find smoother sailing for his plans to rid the world of nuclear weapons, to forge Mideast peace and stabilize Afghanistan, to halt climate change?

Not likely.

The Nobel committee members made no bones about it: Helping Obama achieve ambitious peacemaking goals was their goal in awarding the prize Friday to an as-yet mostly unaccomplished U.S. president.

But while the prestige could give Obama and his efforts a boost, nations steer their courses according to their own interests and little else. U.S. lawmakers, too, aren't going to be influenced in politically difficult votes on climate change legislation or nuclear-reduction treaties by the Nobel Peace Prize, no matter who wins it.

That's not to say it wasn't an impressive achievement.

At just 48 years old and not even nine months in office, Obama became only the third sitting U.S. president to win the prize.

The widespread reaction, however, when the stunning news hit the nation was: For what?

Obama said so himself. "To be honest, I do not feel that I deserve to be in the company of so many of the transformative figures who have been honored by this prize," he said hours after being awakened — and surprised — by spokesman Robert Gibbs.

Comments from Nobel committee members revealed that they fully intended to encourage, not reward. Consider this: The nomination deadline was only 12 days after Obama first entered the Oval Office. It's an enduring myth that the prize is only about accomplishment — it actually was created as much to supply momentum for peace as to celebrate it.

Indeed, with a leftist slant, the five-member committee was applauding Obama as much for what he's not — his predecessor. Former President George W. Bush was much reviled overseas for "cowboy diplomacy," the Iraq war and his snubbing of European priorities such as global warming.

So some cheerleading probably can't hurt, as Obama presses forward on efforts to repair America's relations with Muslims, bring Israelis and Palestinians into fruitful negotiations and turn back climate change. The committee especially singled out Obama's aims to create a nuclear weapons-free world and to set out a new, more cooperative diplomatic doctrine.

"I hope it will help him," Nobel committee chairman Thorbjoern Jagland said of the award. "Obama is the right man at the right time, and that's why we want to enhance his efforts."

"I will accept this award as a call to action," Obama said. "This award must be shared with everyone who strives for justice and dignity."

Still, Obama's efforts are at far earlier stages than past winners'.

For instance:

• He and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev have set negotiators working toward an agreement to significantly reduce nuclear warheads and delivery vehicles. But getting to zero nuclear weapons across the globe — something Obama acknowledged "may not be completed in my lifetime" — means corralling both friend and foe abroad and lawmakers at home behind a mind-bendingly thorny web of treaties and agreements.

• Obama said he would end the Iraq war. But he launches deadly anti-terror strikes in PakistanSomalia and elsewhere and is running a second war, in Afghanistan, that he has already escalated once and is considering ramping up again while trying to persuade mostly reluctant NATO allies to contribute more.

• He has pushed for peace between the Israelis and Palestinians. But there's been little cooperation so far from them.

• His administration is talking to U.S. foes, like IranNorth Korea and Cuba. But there's not much to show from that, either.

• He pledged to take the lead against climate change. But the U.S. seems likely to head into December's crucial international negotiations in Copenhagen with legislation still stalled in Congress and nations crucial to global agreement, including China and India, showing reluctance to come on board.

With many seeing the award as premature, there's the chance it could provoke a small backlash that makes Obama's work harder.

So, no doubt the news of the prize brought trepidation along with joy. As Obama's former foe for the White House, Republican Sen. John McCain, said: "He now has even more to live up to."

Perhaps one reason there was no public celebrating at the White House on Friday.

Alex,

You sound more than a little disgusted with all this, as we all should be.  But, I wouldn't lose hope.  This nightmare will end and all will be revealed.  How do I know this?  These fools (BO and the people behind him) don't know what they are doing.  They are going to screw up big time or people will just get tired with their inability to produce real results and will get them out of office.  That's how it always ends for people who are more concerned with themselves and their appearances than about hard work and caring for others.  The lazy and self-involved always sabotage themselves.  They are their own worst enemies.  I know it seems like it is taking forever, and during that time we should be more concerned with taking care of ourselves and those around us, but it will happen.  Just like the IOC committee smacked BO down, so will every other world leader who has any sense.  As for me, I'm beginning volunteer work next week and am focusing on getting healthy and in advancing in my career.  Let the screwups continue screwing up.  All we can say when it all falls apart is-- "I told you so and you wouldn't listen."  Hope to see you back here soon.
