Late-night host David Letterman acknowledged on Thursday's show that he had sexual relationships with female employees and that someone tried to extort $2 million from him over the affairs. CBS says an employee has been charged with attempted grand larceny in the case.

Letterman told his story during a taping of his show, mixing in jokes to an audience that seemed confused about what it was. He called it a "bizarre experience" that left him feeling disturbed and menaced.

In a release from the show's production company, Letterman said he referred the matter to the Manhattan district attorney's office. An investigation ended in an arrest Thursday after Letterman issued a phony $2 million check to keep the matter silent.

The network said late Thursday the person who was arrested works on the true-crime show "48 Hours" and has been suspended pending the results of the investigation. Neither Letterman nor CBS named the employee, and New York City police declined to identify the person arrested.

Letterman said. “I feel like I need to protect these people — I need to certainly protect my family.”

The district attorney's office said Halderman left a letter and other material for Letterman early Sept. 9. He wrote that he needed "to make a large chunk of money" by selling Letterman a screenplay treatment — an entertainment-business term for a synopsis used to pitch a screenplay.The supposed treatment said Letterman's world would "collapse around him" when information about his private life was disclosed, leading to "a ruined reputation" and damaging his professional and family life, prosecutors said. The also mentioned Letterman's "beautiful and loving son," prosecutors said.

I think David Letterman is a narcissistic sociopath.  How dare he make a joke about "having sex with women", he's married (with a child) and he has control over (his staffers) aka 'women who work for him'.  I can now hear husbands all over the world saying, "honey, it was just sex with women from my work".  I feel sorry for his wife and for what she must be going through with her family and friends knowing that her famous husband (enjoys) sex with 'his staffers' (plural), instead of with her.....and that he is worried about losing his job....
Women should never be treated this way, clearly, David Letterman is a misogynist pig.

We already know how much respect he has for women from the vile comments he made about Sarah Palin. We protested in front of Rockefeller Center then. Maybe now the rest of the public will finally get it, and his career is deservedly finished.

I've never seen his show. But he is concerned about protecting his family, now? I guess before he was called out, it was fine to disrespect his family that way. Hypocrite.

He needs to go, along with whoopie.
