Back in the Saddle (PumaPac) August 30, 2009. Murphy discusses MO

Murphy acknowledges talk of Michelle can veer into sexism.  She also notes that sometimes MO seems unhappy in her role as First Lady to the Fraud.  She rips Teddy K. a little, as well.

"Usually Michelle Obama is off limits for me. It is nearly impossible to prevent commentary or criticism of her from veering off into the sexist AND racist or to at least be perceived that way, so I just stay away from her. Which is mostly easy to do as she appears to be a First Lady intent on acting like a Stepford Wife and doing little more than modeling dresses and tank tops with a surprising number of big, giant fabric bows on them for some reason. See? I just did it myself — I veered off into the sexist with that comment about the big, giant bows on her dresses.
But seriously, I’ve been thinking about her a lot lately. Watching her sitting obviously bored and irritated at the Kennedy funeral got me wondering. Is she as unhappy as she looks in Washington D.C.? Would she really rather be back in Chicago where she was free to be herself, indulging her deep prejudices and strong biases without any fear of backlash or political repercussion?
I actually enjoyed Michelle Obama’s performance at the Kennedy Variey Hour and Love Fest in Boston yesterday. Her inability to mask her true feelings with that politician’s Face of Bemused and Caring Interest they all know how to conjure so well is sort of likable actually — especially since I know I would NEVER be able to pretend to care about the preposterously hypocritical and revisionist lionizing on display.
When Chris Dodd was reminiscing so fondly about his LOOOONG relationship with Teddy, did he mention the fun times they used to have making Waitress Sandwiches?
I don’t even hate the Kennedy’s — I’m glad they voted and promoted liberal causes for so many years. I’m a total sucker for the Bobby Kennedy mythology. I even have admiration and a sense of fondness for JFK. But Teddy? Teddy Kennedy???
A lecherous old creep for whom family connections and money made the bar to success SO low he was able to TRIP over it into a life of nearly unmitigated power and continued, permanent wealth. (Aside from being so blacked-out drunk he let a young woman DROWN in the backseat of his car (when he was 38 years old and a married father, NOT a very young man as the Kennedy Flame Keepers want us all to believe), you DO know that Kennedy was caught cheating TWICE at Harvard and once at UVA Law School, right?).
No better than George W. Bush. The fact that Ted Kennedy was true to the political philosophy and agenda that had kept his bumbling and arrogant family in power for so long is really no surprise at all. What was he going to do — suddenly become a conservative?? oy vey.
But back to Michelle Obama. If she IS in fact unhappy in Washington, why is that? Lord knows the job of the First Lady involves a hell of a lot of ass kissing. Sitting through a farce of a funeral for three hours with a pleasant and seemingly sincere expression on your face IS a form of ass-kissing and it’s the sort of thing the pros like Joe Biden, Bill Clinton, Barack, and even Hillary excel at. But Michelle can’t keep the sour puss at bay.
Why is that? I don’t think she likes those people very much. I don’t think she buys the Kennedy Hagiography Campaign and just can’t stop herself from showing it. I don’t think she likes the hegemonic culture of white power and all its trappings very much. I’m not saying she doesn’t like white people — that would be stupid and obviously untrue, but I DO think she doesn’t like to kow tow and ass kiss at the altar of white culture. And Washington D.C. is perhaps THE biggest altar in the world to the power and glory of White Dudes. Of which Ted Kennedy was one of the most favored of all glorious sons. Kinda puts a sour taste in Michelle Obama’s mouth I think.
And for that I kind of like her style.

From the article:

"And Washington D.C. is perhaps THE biggest altar in the world to the power and glory of White Dudes. Of which Ted Kennedy was one of the most favored of all glorious sons. Kinda puts a sour taste in Michelle Obama’s mouth I think.

Oh, dear God, MO is just a petty, shallow person, just like BO, who is only interested in herself and what benefits her very directly.  But she's not smart enough to realize that at least ACTING like she cares at this funeral would be in her best interests.  And it's a funeral, for God's sake, and you're in the FREAKIN' FRONT ROW!

But, hey, she wasn't a sourpuss the WHOLE time:

Murphy has just fallen victim to the "Can't I Just Say Something Nice?" Syndrome.  We PUMAs are very decent, loving people, and all the negativity really gets us down sometimes.  But it's horrible what's happening with this administration, and to try and "make nice" when it's not justified does no one any good, and may even be harmful, IMHO.

Thank God the grandmother is there, at least!

I saw MO with her eyes closed..I just have to tell you, being of different faith, the catholic rites would put me to sleep too. Now if she would have laid down.....and slumped to her feet, then I would be inclined to totally agree.
