Guys, I am no fan of Michelle Obama, but I sincerely believe this article and the comments of the bloggers is way over the line. We sat by and watched while Hillary was crucified by the media and the Obots for her pantsuits, her cankles, her makeup, her hair style, all personal attacks and as a woman I was insulted and pissed off. We are supposed to stand for women's rights, and although I do think Michelle Obama is an awful person, I don't think it is right to go after her for wearing shorts on a vacation to the Grand Canyon, I'm sorry. If we are going to go after a woman, any woman for wearing shorts, we are descending into a well of cattiness I think is below us. Its just not all that important and it makes us look like we are nothing more than Obama bashing for the hell of it, not because we have legitimate reasons for objecting to them. No Quarters readers disagree, if its MO then it is open season. But I don't agree. Go after her for not using her position to do good, but not for wearing shorts on a vacation! I'm just curious, what do all of you think about this?

Personally I think she looks great. It doesn't bother me in the slightest that she is wearing shorts, it's not as if they are too short. I agree with you, jdona, sexism is sexism and it doesn't matter who it's directed at - if we fail to call the offenders out on it we are hypocrites.
I agree. This crossed a line. I'm no MO fan, but criticism of her should be based on real concerns not what she wore on a plane.

I completey agree this is the second time this week I have had to defend this woman the first time was to a bunch of snooty rich black women that did not want MO to vacation with them because she is from the ghetto. I don't give a damn where she is from she is the First Lady and these idiots voted for her husband. I am no fan of MO but I don't want any woman to go through what Hillary went through as First Lady and as a Presidential Candidate.
We can not say we are against sexism and then make sexist remarks about MO. Either we are against it all the time or we are just like NOW.
You are so right Hmg. Remember the New Agenda article about this, but in regard to Nancy Pelosi. It basically said that feminists are against sexism and misogyny - regardless of whether they like the woman being targeted, and agree with her politics. As you said, this is where NOW missed the mark in a big way - first in their lame defense of Hill, then in their worship of Obama, in spite of his sexism. Secondly, their treatment of Palin was a disgrace. No organization that is actually against misogyny and sexism could have remained silent in the face of the sexist slurs and cruel attacks on Sarah, her parenting skills, her looks, and on and on. As much as I absolutely detest Pelosi (about 1000 times more than I dislike MO), if she was the target of sexism, as a feminist, I would feel an obligation to defend her....Damn it. Thing is, with Nancy, there are plenty of valid reasons to criticize her - MO too, actually. There is no reason to bring up issues like appearance, dress, etc.
