I voted "Going on a Vacation", even though I haven't been on one yet this summer. Maybe towards the end of the month.

I love going to the ocean, I have a few places around the south that are not crowded and are gorgeous. Fripp Ilsand, is one...the Carolina's and some parts of Georgia still have beaches that are just as wonderful as Florida without the crowds!! It's not expensive to stay in these places. Take a bunch of great books, a lounge chair...wine or whatever and read all day. Cook something really simple for dinner like a fig salad with bread and more wine and then go walk on the beach to watch the sunset...continue by sitting by the ocean till bed time. Repeat the next day.

I LOVE the summer. It is my favorite time of year and there's almost nothing I don't like about it. Homemade Ice Cream, all the great gardens and flowers...fresh vegatables right out of the garden. REALLY warm, warm rain, that cut grass smell right after a rain on a hot afternoon.

I could go on, and on and on. Boy I hope when IF I ever get to retire I live some place where it is summer weather for as many months as possible!!

Thanks Alice Paul we have been looking for a good place to vacation at the beach - but not a crowded beach. I'm going to check out your favorites tomorrow.

I love the summer because our kids are home and we have two whole months to relax, unwind, and have some fun just hanging out with family and friends. Life goes by too fast, before I know I'll have an empty nest --- until then I want to enjoy the time we have together.

There's also Tybee Island off of Savannah
http://tybeeisland.com/index.shtml

St. Simon's Island also off the coast of Georgia and her sister Island Jeckyll. Both of these are more popular lately...I used to live on Jeckyll..omg! Why did I ever move!

There are tons of these gorgeous little islands off the coast of South Carolina and Georgia...om lord take me with you! I miss that area so much.

I used to be able to take a book and sit all day on Jeckyll and never see another soul..I hear it isn't quite like that now but, it's a wild life preserve still as is FRiPP I believe...

Tybee or Fripp are both lovely..Fripp is close to Hilton Head which is FAR, FAR more populated so with FRIPP you get the same atmosphere and scenary with less people. You will love it!

Good idea my kids are almost all grown up now.  I have one left.

Blogging!biggrin

Come to think of it, I like air conditioning so much, I don't really do much outside in the summer.  I do like to go to movies, though.  We'll probably see that "Julie/Julia" movie tomorrow!wink

Oh, and we did go to a baseball game the other day - that was fun.smile

I agree about Jeckyll Island. We have vacationed there and it is terrific and different from the typical beach areas. We did the tour of the island and had a wonderful tour guide. We were surprised at how the beach nearly disappears at times during high tide. We stayed on the ocean front. Yes, it is still a wild life preserve, which makes it even better.

Our favorite beach is Wrightsville Beach, NC. It is a quite, family beach. We stay on the ocean front. Each morning, we take long walks on the beach, as the sun is coming up and, in the evening, we take long walks and enjoy the beach. Absolutely perfect. There is a really nice restaurant in walking distance that overlooks the ocean and you can dine on the pier. Some of the rentals can be pricey, but there are also four motels/condos that are ocean front on the island.

We have been going there for years. And, if you want to sight-see, Wilmington, NC is not far away. The USS North Carolina is docked there and there is a neat tour of the ship (but, it can be hot . . . we did it the first time in 109 degree weather). There is also a neat shopping area that is in old renovated buildings in the city. And, there are tours that you can take on the river.

I love summer and everything about it . . . smile.gif

Since I can't travel far, I love my yard blooming and the garden. Guess I'm sort of boring. But the dogs are a handful and enjoy the yard with me.  Murray, my Bassett Hound, is really hard to keep away from my green peppers.  Last year he bit off about a dozen of them before I noticed.

When the corn is about knee-high, I like sitting out in the evening looking at the fields and the ligtening bugs seem to dance on top of the corn.  The corn has grown so high, I can't see traffic on Rt. 6, but that's okay, next year soybeans.  I never miss a sunrise or sunset.

When my oldest takes me for a ride, I just look and look.  Seems I can't get enough of all the beautiful country.  All the farmers have their crops growing and busy on their heavy equipment.

I love to go on vacation to Cape Cod.  I've spent my summers there since I was very little.  I love sharing my favorite things about the Cape with my children.  Since we were practically natives on the Cape, we know many places to visit that don't have crowds associated.  Our home is walking distance from the beach and we get to go to the private beach for residents, so crowd control is good.

My absolute favorite time to go to Cape Cod is in the Fall when the crowds are gone.  I could walk on the beach for hours.  I don't need the beach for a tan, just a place to enjoy the scenery and the sound of the waves.
