President Bill Clinton today brought attention to the growing healthcare costs related to obesity in the United States and the urgent need for better prevention, assessment and treatment of the childhood obesity epidemic. President Clinton, speaking at Weight of the Nation, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) inaugural conference on obesity, discussed the significant impact of obesity on our nation’s healthcare system. According to figures released by the CDC today, obesity costs our nation as much as $147 billion per year in direct healthcare costs and lost productivity. The President highlighted the work of the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, a joint initiative of the American Heart Association and the William J. Clinton Foundation, facilitating innovations to significantly reduce childhood obesity in the United States by 2015. http://adugan-billclintonblog.blogspot.com/
i read in a medical journal last week that obesity is set to kill more people than smoking
I still don't understand how obesity became so prevalent - I've heard it blamed on everything from cable TV to cars to a less active lifestyle overall, but even in rural areas, this is a big problem. I really doubt the government can do too much without turning the country into a bigger nanny state, but that's not even working on this one back in the UK.
My dream is to wake up one morning with Hillary in the White House. I will never forget the night he won, I couldn't stay awake any longer and I thought he probably didn't win, woke up to see a big celebration on the t.v. going on in Little Rock over his victory. WHAT a great day!! Bill Clinton was viciously attacked by the right and I haven't forgotten it. He was the best president in terms of caring about this country and getting things done for people of my entire lifetime. Hillary will do even better. Bill's always said she would...
I think Bill Clinton's foundation and his work since leaving the W.H. are worthy of so much more gratefulness than this country gives him. He doesn't seem to mind because he doesn't do this for praise. He just keeps on going and doing what will help the most people. He cares. Do you all realize all the things he COULD be doing instead of working so hard to be of service to others?? When the story of history is really told no matter what they tried to do to this man, his legacy will be a fine one indeed.
