Wow, the last two weeks I've baked so many apricot pies (good year from my trees)....and finally had to clean the oven, so much spillage that my fire alarm was going off from the smoke!

You should know, the only pie that wakes me in the middle of the night, is key lime!

YXD  I am so glad you are here!!!  I have early blight on my red potatoes and have needed to talk to you about what to expect from the tubers.  I don't have any on my sweet potatoes or my tomatoes.

I drew you in with the pie and now I need to pick your brain for my container garden.   I assume there is nothing I can do for my taters now that the blight has taken hold.  It is small black dots on the leaves and some of them are turning yellow and getting yellow spots on them.

Optix...mix 1/4 cup Clorox to one gallon of bleach and spray them.  If the blight does not kill  the tops totally, your spuds should be okay.  You can also pick off the blighted leaves (but you have to leave some leaves on stems for pohotosynthesis.)

Everyone has had a cool, wet spring and early summer and I am hearing from everyone that blight is getting spuds, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant and several other things and "Smut" is getting to the corn (and no...Smut is  not "X" rated corn porno HAHAHAHAHAHA.)

See, this is why I miss you guys...you appreciate my twisted sense of humour!

My corn is just NOT growing.  It is still quite small and no hint or corn. Everything else is growing alright considering the unusual unending Spring.  BUT YxDem you must stay in touch for gardening help, PLEASE!!!

B-Word, Corn is an extremely heavy feeder and likes lots of heat.  Have you fertilized? (Something like Ortho ?)

Perhaps you should restart your garden thread? There are several off topic rooms on this forum. Help these women save their gardens.  There is no hope for me. My best friend is the gardner.

I'm totally feeling at home now. Tell you California is having heat wave like 116 degrees in one spot, will continue of today and taper off. It starting to make me feel headachy, and hot all the time. In my ice box: banana cream pie, Italian salad and I know X, I used
cork Screw noodles, with all kinds of veggies. Fresh cooked sliced beets. Zuke casserole, and lots of luncheon meats and cheeses (fresh whole wheat bread, zuke bread, and bagels, oh, and mellons.........freezer 4 different flavors ice cream....... TEA, TEA, and more Tea.

That's what we are eating on the rest of the week.........

X do start up your garden and recipes............I was going to ask you for wild rice recipe.

Glad to be surrounded with all the comforts of home.  I gotta tell you my grandkids
are coming next week, talking with my son, he said they are so happy, flying to granny's for some hot chocolate and fudge.........her dad told her no, the last time we were there it was winter, and now it's summer, so you won't be having hot chocolate, or fudge........she said hmmmmm.

I've used organic vegetable fertilizer from by Espoma.  We have had so much rain, in my zone 6 (almost to 5) area everything in my garden looks "behind" schedule.  I only had to pulled out the butter crunch, spinach, snow peas, etc 2 weeks ago.  Until then they were still producing like it was late spring.  However the corn looks far behind the other plants (tomatoes are fruiting- still green but are a good size now).  I'm not sure if I should just rip out the corn and plant the area with something else.  I hate wasting the space on a non-producer.  What do you think?

I take the blame for Optix's behavior she's been influenced by me. The condition is temporary and should not have any long lasting effects. LOL wink
