What’s George W. Bush’s biggest regret as president? That he didn’t privatize Social Security, he told a group in Chicago on Thursday. The former president also said, "I have zero desire, just so you know, to be in the limelight. I don't think it's good for the country to have a former president criticize his successor. You're not going to see me giving my opinions in the public arena, until I start selling my book. I'm going to emerge then submerge." His book, Decision Points, comes out November 9.
Let's get this straight here.. he gave big tax cut to the wealthy even as their wealth grew at the highest levels by unheard of numbers and people slid from middle income to poverty (especially in COLA-adjusted purchasing power terms on essentials and fuel), he started a war without having sufficient proof of allegations and misdirected national defense resources to the wrong goals... and deepened our national debt to unheard of levels.... and then did not handle Fannie and Freddie and their T-bills uncle China well enough to avoid a derivatives mess in the market... and did mega bailout of AIG... and squandered taxpayer money left and right....
.... and now his biggest regret is that he did not privatize social security?
Just as I thought I missed him.... Oh well.
Perhaps he is reminding us what it is that we have in store with the more conservative Republican agenda.. Just in time!
We will definitely have a House of Reps with Repub majority. Perhaps even a Senate? Let's remember that it takes 6 years to undo any elections into the Senate and typically any incumbent senator gets re-elected for a second term... and a third.... Meanwhile, we will have a Presidential election.
I hope we do not end up with Repub super majority House and Repub majority Senate... and a Repub President.
