Jerry Brown announced he has received the endorsement of the National Organization for Women, less than 24 hours after the emergence of a recorded message in which Brown can be heard in a conversation with advisors in which someone calls Whitman a "whore." Coincidence? You be the judge.
Whitman's campaign pounced after the audio was made public, sending out a release Thursday night from spokeswoman Sarah Pompei calling the use of the term "an insult to both Meg Whitman and to the women of California. This is an appalling and unforgivable smear against Meg Whitman. At the very least Mr. Brown tacitly approved this despicable slur and he himself may have used the term at least once on this recording."
As if on cue, Brown's campaign Friday released the endorsement from NOW championing Brown's record on women's rights. "As Governor, Mayor, and Attorney General, Jerry Brown has promoted and defended women’s rights,” said California NOW President Patty Bellasalma.
“Jerry stands for fairness and equality and never ever backs down. We have every confidence that he will do the same as California’s next governor.”
Any woman who truly believes in equality for all women and belongs to NOW should resign immediately.
Yes, I saw that about NOW and had the same reaction.
As to Jerry Brown saying "he will use that" or whatever it was he said supposedly in response to the aide suggesting calling Meg Whitman names..... As to the audio clip, I had had three thoughts:
I wondered if Jerry Brown really was reacting to the campaign aid who suggested calling Meg Whitman names. Politicians are careful to not do that kind of stupid stuff. He may have been remarking to someone else.
I wondered who made audio tape
I wondered if the person who made the audio tape may be connected to the person who made that comment.
If indeed Jerry Brown said that to the aide and the aide is a long-time staffer... of course Jerry is deeply in the wrong. I doubt we will know specifics on this unless and until Brown looses.
The whole remark thing definitely has opened the door much more widely for Meg Whitman. Brown really needed more women votes and NOW's endorsement is going to help him a lot.
So, whether NOW really explored 1,2,3 above and what they found out in that regard is important.

It was we, the people; not we, the white male citizens; nor yet we, the male citizens; but we, the whole people, who formed the Union.... Men, their rights and nothing more; women, their rights and nothing less. ~Susan B. Anthony
For the most part, true. [They lost me when they endorsed Obama; I wrote to every NOW exec that I coudl get address on and even heard back from some.] In California, NOW may still have some influence...

This is not the first time Jerry did this. The first time was in 1992 when he was running for President when he called then candidate Clinton's wife Hillary Clinton a whore and Bill Clinton threatened to punch him in the nose. I am through with NOW
NOW is right up there with Gloria Allred when it comes to integrity.

Yep! I wonder how many more nationally will drop out of NOW as a result of this.

Hey there, you posted as I was editing here! :) I didnt know of Jerry's history with that pejorative word.... Interesting.
[A to that pejorative being tossed at Hillary... Isnt it interesting that women pay for men's escapades?]
And, yes, I am quite thru with NOW. And when I am thru... I've not even visited their site in two years.
