Sen. Jim DeMint: Gays And Unmarried, Pregnant Women Should Not Teach Public School

Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) attempted to convince pastors that economic issues are moral issues at the Greater Freedom Rally at a church in Spartanburg, South Carolina yesterday, imploring them to help conservatives retake Congress in November.

In addition to reiterating anti-choice talking points on abortion and backing "traditional marriage," according to the Spartanburg Herald-Journal, the senator went further and "said if someone is openly homosexual, they shouldn't be teaching in the classroom and he holds the same position on an unmarried woman who's sleeping with her boyfriend -- she shouldn't be in the classroom."

Controversy over DeMint's position on this issue first arose in 2004 during a Senate debate, when he was asked whether he agreed with the state party's platform that said openly gay teachers should be barred from teaching public school. DeMint said he agreed with that position because government shouldn't be endorsing certain behaviors.

This guy is quite something. He has a sense of morality that belongs in the 18th century... but not quite...  You see - What about a married man who is sleeping around? Does that man qualify? That person is not excluded from teaching privileges by DeMint.

Senator DeMint, Kids dont go to the school to learn how their teachers have sex or who they have sex with.  But, in the ordinary course of social circle in the school, if they find out about these FACTS OF LIFE, why is it so wrong for them to find out there these things do happen in society?

As to suggetion that economic interests translate to social interests... THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I AM CONCERNED THAT TEA PARTY WILL START SAYING.  Conservatism of Tea Party on the fiscal spectrum is a big guise to push social values.

Those who follow/support DeMint should be ashamed of themselves. They have their head stuck in an era of their grandparents.
