Arianna discussed the Tea Party and their influence on the 2010 midterm elections as part of a roundtable on ABC's "This Week," together with George Will, Kate Zernike, and Jonathan Karl.
"You heard Austan Goolsbee say that [unemployment] is likely to stay high for quite a while," host Christiana Amanpour posed to the group. "Is this what's empowering the Tea Party movement, and what do you think is going to happen, for example, in the primaries that are coming up this week?"
"The economic anxiety is certainly a part of it, and the sense that we're spending more money than we have to spend," Zernike replied. "I think these primaries are going to be very interesting. We've got some primaries in New Hampshire -- I think that's probably going to swing with the establishment candidate, Kelly Ayotte in the Senate. We've got of course the Delaware Senate race, which many are looking at as a Tea Party election, and if this woman Christine O'Donnell is elected, I think it will be a boon for Democrats."
"But here is the irony," Arianna said. "You have about 10 congressional races where a third-party independent candidate may make the difference and help the Democrats. But in the end, there is such an overwhelming anger in the country. You have two-thirds of Americans who think that their children are not going to do as well as they are doing. So this is a very profound anger. Politics is a zero-sum game. If they don't vote for the party who is in charge right now, they'll vote for Republicans. Even though they're going to make this worse for their children, it doesn't matter, they don't have another choice."
"I think Arianna's right," Zernike continued. "The Tea Party is really more a state of mind than a movement. People may not identify themselves as Tea Party members but it is a wave year, and they are supporting that viewpoint and they are looking for change."
The Obama administration has "completely underestimated the economic crisis," Arianna went on. "They told us that unemployment was going to be down to 8 percent. So right now the American people have a choice between inadequate solutions from the Democrats or laughable solutions from the Republicans. Thanks god in Nevada they can vote for 'None of the above'!"

Precisely, Arianna! So now what????? Not everyone ha that "None of the above" choice.. and if they did, what does that amount to in reality? I mean what is the real impact of that vote other than showing up and demonstrating that a piece of the pie stood out? Nothing, really! That's the bane of the two-party system.
We need to get to a place where we have more than 2, and posibly more than 3 viable parties... so much so they have to form a coalition government in order to get anything done. May be then the representatives will start to behave.
I agree with Arianna's remarks about the economy especially at the 9:20 point. The banks are borrowing from the Fed at 0% FIBOR rate and lending for the same operations that got us to the mess of too big to fail because Glas-Steagall has not been reinstated and derivatives trading has not been curbed and we are exactly where we were at two years ago on that mess.
Anyway, this was one of the best interviews ... I will try to find the green room discussion and listen to that.
On an aside note, Christiana Amanpour did a mega professional job in this anchor role. She is busting the notion that a female has to be the smiley coy anchor. CNN lost out on losing Amanpour to ABC. With time, I believe Amanpour will make Brinkley and Stephanapoulos memories fade away.

Arianna Huffington is a joke herself as far as I am concerned. She was anti Hillary and pro Obama all the way as I remember it. Nothing she says has any credibility at all with me.
I dont have much sympathy for journalists languishing in stuper for too long... and yes, she was there a very long time.. and was probably a big vote getter for Obama.
She seems to have woken up a bit... and no longer dissing Hillary.
It was one of the better interviews by Amanpour.. She has taken a bit in coming into that panel moderator chair.

Amanpour will never be a Brinkley...or Huntley...Cronkite...Frank Reynolds...or Edward R. Murrow. She more than did her part to elevate The One rather than doing some real reporting.
Sadly, she is the best of what is the worst group of so-called journalists at this time. That really isn't saying much about the state of journalism today.
Once was enough for me........too late forher, she helped install Obama.
I agree. She used all of the influence at her disposal to install Obama. She destroyed her credibility as a pretend Journalist, and proved that she has very poor judgement - like many in her so called profession. Actually, journalism is no longer a profession. In 2008, journalists were more like pimps than professionals - Obamapimps.
I do think the Dems may be celebrating a little too early. People are no happier with incumbent Dems than with Pubs. As long as Obama is as unpopular with the voters as he is currently, every Dem is going to have an uphill climb, just because they're in the same party as the failed potus.
