Excellent article, HMG. It's always a real education to get the truth from someone who has experienced it. Regarding ACORN - I'm no expert on the group, but given their actions during the Dem Primary, I fail to see much positive about them. My impression, based on what I've seen and read, is that they are sometimes more interested in exploiting the poor than helping them.

It was when I worked as a teacher in inner city schools in Brooklyn and saw the horrible school conditions for the poorest children that I had a revelation that poor communities were not being properly served.

I appreciate your perspective as an independent-minded person with experience. And you right. Many of the same people that are against voucher would never dare send their children to many of the schools that are in our poorest communities. And I agree also that both Dems and Repubs have good ideas… and bad ideas.

This is a very powerful piece, thank you for writing this. I will remember this and share this article whenever I hear someone speaking on behalf of poor women without really taking the time to listen.

Thank you Alison. I just get so tired of everyone telling me how I should feel or how only one of the Political parties serve the needs of the poor. Neither Democrats nor Republicans have a clue as to what programs work or not because they don’t bother to ask our appointment. Perhaps we are not educated but that doesn’t mean we don’t understand what works and what doesn’t work.

I worked and continue to work with poor women and they did NOT vote for Mr. Obama. As one black women said to me, I know a liar when I hear one and I do not need to know anything else. Immigrants, poor women, and children (prior to being brainwashed) are the truth bearers and we need to listen to them before it is too late.

ACORN is simply an evil, crooked, sinister cadre hiding under the mantra of ‘helping’ while really the only person(s) they are helping are evil, wealthy, *******s who want nothing from America except her money and her demise. And that goes for the Democratic party too, because hand in hand they defrauded millions, cheated us out of the best president ever (Hillary is the 44th), and continue to lie, cheat, and steal as if no one was watching. But we are. We most certainly are.
