Jobless Rate Rose In 43 States In December

Washington (AP) - Unemployment rates rose in 43 states last month, the government said Friday, painting a bleak picture of the job market that illustrated nationwide data released two weeks ago.

The rise in joblessness was a sharp change from November, when 36 states said their unemployment rates fell. Four states — South Carolina, Delaware, Florida and North Carolina — reported record-high jobless rates in December.

New Jersey's rate, meanwhile, rose to a 33-year high of 10.1 percent while New York's reached a 26-year high of 9 percent.

[snip]

Texas and Georgia lost more jobs in December than they had gained the previous month, she noted, while Arizona and South Carolina lost nearly as many as they had gained.

That is consistent with nationwide trends. Employers shed a net total of 85,00 jobs in December, the government said earlier this month, after notching a small gain of 4,000 jobs in November.

[snip]

California lost 38,800 jobs. But its unemployment rate was unchanged at 12.4 percent, the fifth-highest in the nation. That's because 107,000 people, or 0.6 percent of the state's workforce, gave up and stopped job-hunting.

Michigan shed 15,700 jobs, but 31,000 people left the labor force. That caused the state's jobless rate to fall slightly, to 14.6 percent from 14.7 percent. Michigan has the nation's highest unemployment rate.

It just seems like everything is getting worse. BHO and his administration, along with congress, has failed this country.

Now he's got the investors on the run. Banks are also losing stock value these last two days.

Yep! Only thing getting better is OTHER people's polls vs. Obama.

Lastnight I heard on Hannity that Huckabee is up against Obama in the polls. I will find the poll and post.

That's from one of my local stations.  Things are bad here.  There are no jobs anywhere not even in health care which is now our big industry.

the thing is people do not want to invest, businesses, pretty much all sizes, especially small biz do not want to hire.

And I do not blame them, I have a friend who has a small biz, she is petrified at all the job killing crap comning out of DC, she was planning on hiring 1 or 2 people this year, but now, she may have to fire 1 or 2 people, she is just unsure with the rationcare bill and then the capntax bill..... I mena think about it, a biz person has to be assured that a buttload of new taxes aren't comning their way, or else then they would have to fire people, so why take a chance in growing your biz??

and btw, she used to be a staunch loyal democrat, now she is SOOOO disgusted with these radical marxists, not only has she left the party, now a registered independent, she donates to all her local republican/tea party patriots election races.

THe undemocratic party brand is dying a slow death, and why would anyone trust these fools with power again, now that they have shown us how they abused it last year, and continue to do so this year.

Can you imagine the further confusion when Hillary runs in 2012?  If anyone is a loyal and true Democrat, it's Hillary.  I was a Democrat, until last year, now unaffiliated.  But when our girl Hil becomes president, I will reconsider my views, if other politicians come around also.wink
