RALEIGH — Sen. Charlie Albertson and Rep. Carolyn Justus said they won't seek re-election this year.
Albertson, a 78-year-old Democrat from Duplin County, said he wants to spend more time with his family. He said he's tired after being in the legislature for 22 years and wants to see if there's something else that interests him.
Albertson is one of three leaders of the Senate Appropriations Committee but is best known for agriculture and environmental issues.
Several powerful Senate Democrats already have announced they're not running this year, including David Hoyle and R.C. Soles. Former Senate Majority Leader Tony Rand resigned last month and took a job running the state Parole Commission.
