GENESEE COUNTY, Michigan — State Rep. Paul Scott, R-Grand Blanc, is pursuing entering the Michigan secretary of state race, he said today.

Scott, 27, who also has filed for re-election to his state House seat, told The Flint Journal he is forming a candidate committee this afternoon in order to raise funds for a potential run for secretary of state.

"It's the front door to democracy — ensuring a quality elections process," he said of the office.

Scott's candidacy could be considered a boon for the state Republican party, which historically has had trouble capturing votes from young people and minorities. He will join at least three other Republicans considering seeking the party's nomination: state Sen. Cameron Brown, state Sen. Michelle McManus and Calhoun County Clerk Anne Norlander.

Scott was elected to the 51st District state House seat in 2008 following a six-way primary and hard-fought race, and has outlined an agenda for this year that includes tax reforms and an initiative to help retain Michigan college students.

Scott has filed for re-election..[snip]

It is delightful to see such youthful faces entering politics.  He is 27!!!  Going for Michigan SOS!

I like the way he expresses the role of the SOS office. Yes, it is the front door of democracy.  I have to get to know this candidate a bit.  Who knows, he may run for President some day!

Best wishes to you Paul Scott.
