Former Omaha Mayor Mike Boyle has decided against running for Nebraska governor in 2010, so Democrats still lack a candidate for governor.
Boyle, a Democrat and current Douglas County Commissioner, had said last month that he was considering a run, saying the state needs a change from "politics as usual."
Boyle's wife, Public Service Commissioner Anne Boyle, confirmed Tuesday that her husband has decided not to run.
Mike Boyle was mayor of Omaha in 1987 when he was recalled in a special election because of his controversial management style _ including his firing of the police chief.
Gov. Dave Heineman, a Republican, has not yet announced whether he will seek re-election.
The deadline to file for candidacy for the 2010 election is next month.
