ZANESVILLE (OH) -- Before his death, Jason E. Knisley of Washington Court House was sleeping in a crawl space tucked under the east end of the Y-Bridge.
He was 20 feet from the ground in a space with maybe 2 feet of width in which to maneuver his body.
Knisley fell that 20 feet to the rocky ground below and died from a head injury.
He was 29 and he had no place else to go.
COUNTING THE HOMELESS
It is estimated 22 homeless people lived in the city in 2008, the latest numbers which were available.
The 22 count came from numbers given to the Muskingum County Continuum of Care from local agencies such as the Salvation Army, Genesis, Muskingum Behavioral Health and many others. The continuum's mission is to address the needs of the homeless population and try to prevent it.
Volunteers with the continuum will go out from 3 to 8 p.m. Jan. 26 to walk the streets to get a more accurate number of how many people are homeless in the city.
