Sexism was clearly more acceptable than racism in the ’08 campaign. And while I’m thrilled we’re starting to conquer racism, I’m saddened by the fact that sexism is still alive and well in American media and culture.
There was ample evidence in the presidential campaign when then-Sen. Hillary Clinton was called a she-goat and all manner of sexist insults without fellow partisans protesting the abuse. There was the chorus of Democrats calling on her to give up her campaign before she was ready to do so. Nonetheless, she became the first woman to win 20 state primaries.
On the GOP ticket, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin became the first woman to run for vice president on the Republican side. She, too, has suffered sexist treatment in the media.
I am not so sure I agree with this article. I agree somewhat that Hillary and Sarah got treated worse then Barack but I don't buy the whole racism is going away thing. Its gotten better but the truth is young black males are more likely to receive ridiculas high prison sentences, are more likely to be killed by the police or beaten by them. Black men are still the last one hired and first one fired. I also don't like sexism and racism pitted against each other both are horrible equally. I am not as bothered by either as I am classism though. I get more hassles from where I am from then anything else.
I feel that both racism and sexism got heightened in 2008 and the nation lost a lot of ground. It may take a full generation to truly recover from the damage caused by calling people like Pres.Bill Clinton racist, portraying Hillary Clinton's true self as an emotional manipulator and portraying Sarah Palin as a pig with lipstick on. Supposed uniter drove wedges into society for personal gain and it is truly unconscionable that the nation got so polarized. In many ways, it brought out the worst of America.

The fact that Bill Clinton who NO BLACK person I know thinks is racist got called a racist is in itself racist behavior.
It will be interesting to see the upcoming election, 2010, 2012. I think you hit it with a hammer Sanders, it might take another generation. Meanwhile, I intend to fight the sexism and to help bring us together as a viable voting block, regardless if we disagree on issues.
I watched Palin's interview on Fox last night, and she used the term "sexism" several times. She is bringing an awareness on the damage it does too.

I would love to see Palin and Clinton give an interview and address all the sexism they had to endure in 2008. Although politicially these two women are different as night and day they both showed great class and perservarence in the face of some of the worst sexism I have ever seen in my lifetime. Its time these two women kick butt and let the world know "Never Again." I give the hats off to both of these women.
