In a surprise move that undermines Barack Obama's early efforts to improve relations with the Arab world, the White House announced that it was embracing Israel's position on the resumption of the Israeli-Palestinian peace process.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said over the weekend that she welcomed Israel's offer of a limited moratorium on the construction of some settlements in the Palestinian West Bank. She called it “unprecedented” and said it puts the onus on Palestinian Authority president Mahmoud Abbas to return to the negotiating table without preconditions.

The question, however, is why? What is the motive for this abrupt change in direction? Mr. Crooke said he was hard-pressed to find an explanation.

“The only thing I can think of is that it is part of some kind of deal to have Israel quietly support Obama's approach to Iran,” he said.

Whatever the rationale, the effect of this new U.S. position on Mr. Abbas is enormous.

The Palestinian leader already is reeling from the Goldstone fiasco, in which Mr. Abbas initially agreed to U.S. pressure to defer consideration of a UN report on alleged war crimes in Gaza earlier this year.

“There is no way he can accept these terms for resuming the peace process,” Mr. Crooke said. “And I can only assume the Americans knew this.”

I hope Hillary doesn't have to take the fall for whatever comes out of this. But, I'm afraid that she'll take most of the heat.

Don't know for sure, but maybe the usurper promised the opposite during his "campaign."  He is required by law to flip-flop (no offense to the shoes) on ALL his positions.

Yes.  Why?  I guess we would have to be able to think like Obama to fully get it, and if that's the case, I hoping I never get it. lol.
