Obama had the "audacity" to suggest hat Paterson not run for re-election, in part, because of Paterson's appointment of Gillibrand to Hill's senate seate. The nerve of that spiteful, controlling, arrogant little man.
Obama disses Paterson, in part for Gillibrand pick
September 20, 2009 by Amy Siskind
In what The New York Times described as an an extraordinary intervention, President Obama has requested that Governor Paterson of New York drop his campaign for re-election.
One of the main reasons cited, was Gov Paterson’s selection of Sen Kirsten Gillibrand to take Secretary Hillary Clinton’s open seat:
In addition, the relationship between Mr. Obama and Mr. Paterson has been shaky, dating to the governor’s selection of a replacement for Hillary Rodham Clinton, who resigned from the Senate to become secretary of state. White House officials had received assurances from Mr. Paterson that he would not pick Kirsten E. Gillibrand, then a little-known Democratic congresswoman from a heavily Republican district outside of Albany, according to a prominent Democrat who discussed the matter with a senior White House official.
The White House and Democratic House leaders were concerned that her sudden departure from the House would give Republicans a prime opportunity to reclaim the seat.
Well, news flash – Gillibrand’s house seat did stay in Democratic hands – with help of course from Sen Gillibrand.
And by using the bold move by Gov Paterson as a ground to speak out about him, what is President Obama saying? That moving away from the status quo to pick a qualified woman is not acceptable? To give you a sense of how strong Sen Gillibrand was at home, she won her House seat with over 60% of the vote as a Democrat running in a heavily Republican district. Does this not speak volume about her popularity and job performance and hence qualification for the then open senate seat?

Admittedly, I am not happy with Senator Gillibrand's recent pro-ACORN vote and I'm not a huge Paterson fan, either. But that's for the voters of NY to sort out. Obama has no business meddling in their state politics.
I heard Paterson says he's running anyway. Good for him!
Obama is interfering in New York's business. It is up to the voters of NY. I hear Rick Laslo is planning to run again. I would love to see Hillary in this race. After Obama's disater last week about the shield I want her out of that administration.
I don't ever remember a President telling a Gov. of a state to drop out. It's not a good thing. Ms Gillibrand is running against Rick Lazio I think. She has a rough road ahead of her. So far her ratings in the polls are not that great. I do not think the President should be interfering in State matters
I thought when Patterson picked Gillibrand over princess caroline, that was great!
Gillibrand, after her defending Acorn is turning out to be such a huge disappointment! I cannot support her anymore!
As for Patterson running for re-election or not... WHO THE H*** does Obama think he is telling a SITTING GOVERNOR of a state to step down or resign!
Whether I support Patterson or not is besides the issue.. this is Patterson's decision and NY voters decisions! THE ILLEGIMATE FRAUD NEEDS TO STFU!
and good for Patterson for sticking to his own chops and running anyways.... he will most likely lose, but again that is besides the point.. that decision to run or not is HIS! and the NY voters will decide that!
and get this.. now the weakling illegimate fraud is backing away saying they never asked Patterson to step down.. (I think Patterson leaked this information to the press.. he played it perfectly.. good for Patterson!)

I don't think it's ever happened before - but that was when the head of our government was PRESIDENT. Now, that our head of state is more like ROYALTY - can't be criticized, can do whatever he choses - it's not that surprising.
I agree with the others who are disgusted with Gillibrand for her vote against blocking ACORN funding. Bad move, and very disappointing. I think we all wanted her to get the Hillary's seat, primarily, because we knew Hillary wanted it, but I would not have written letters, commented on blogs, etc. in support of her had I known she would have done this.

I don't care what race Rick Lazio goes after, I will never vote for him. He was the one who ran against Hillary for Senate back in 2000 and he breached every decorum imaginable in that one debate. He got in Hillary's face (literally) during the debate and that is what lost him the election.
The only things I have heard about Gillibrand is that she doesn't have the staff support that Hillary had. Gillibrand doesn't have the moxy that Hillary does to pick staff that can help her do the right thing, that doesn't mean she is a bad person just really new.
I am not happy how she voted regarding Acorn, but I will not vote for ANY man who runs for that seat now (at least not in 2010). I am going to give Gillibrand a Mulligan on this one. She only gets one from me.
Now Louise Slaughter in Congress has GOT TO GO!! We need a woman in the Pub party to run against her and use her ties to O and ACORN against her. Did you know she wanted to impeach Bill Clinton? She really really needs to be shown the door.
Don't know too much about NY politics, since I'm not there, but kudos to Gov. Paterson for not being a puppet of the BO administration. He did what he thought was the most prudent move for the Dem Party in his state (by appointing Gillbrand) and now he is publicly defying BO and says the he will run for governor. If only other Democrats had that much strength of character.

I remember Lazio I don't see him beating Gullini in the Primary and something tells me the race is going to be between Gullini and Clinton. My guess is that Hillary is going to break another NY glass ceiling.
