The nation's jobless rate rose last month to 9.7% in August, the highest level since 1983 and a sign that the labor market remains weak even as the economy shows signs of recovery.
The economy also shed 216,000 jobs in August, down from a loss of 276,000 jobs in July, the Bureau of Labor Statistics said Friday. Job losses now total 6.9 million since the recession began in December 2007.
It's scary. I know quite a few people who can't find jobs. The small businesses are afraid to hire, I think, in part because of the health insurance issue. Many small business owners I know are continuing to experience a slump in sales and income.
But, I'm sure there's no need to worry. Joe Biden says the stimulus is working. Things are really much better than they appear. At least so says Joe. lol.
