Sorry I think I posted too much of the article. But I thought it was important for real democrats and liberals to read.

I'm not that far left, but I agreed with a lot of the points in this article. One thing that bothers me personally is that if I want to oppose That One, I have to join forces with Republicans because there is no counter-movement anywhere on the left side of the political spectrum. The Repubs are OK for short-term alliances-- the enemy of my enemy is my friend and all that-- but when push comes to shove I don't stand on the same side as they do on most of the major issues.

Well, one of the biggest problems is people believing what the media tells them, and it's not only Republicans that do that.  But that's what makes it so hard to have a third-party system work.  When you have the ones who control your TV screens shoving the status quo down your throat 24/7, indoctrination is hard to avoid, for many.

"The Liberty Party, which fought slavery, the suffragists who battled for women’s rights, the labor movement, and the civil rights movement knew that the question was not how do we get good people to rule—those attracted to power tend to be venal mediocrities—but how do we limit the damage the powerful do to us."

Interesting quote from Ralph.  After reading this article, I don't blame him as much for Bush winning because of the watered-down Democratic vote.  He was just doing what he thought was essential to stop the slaughter in needless wars, stop the onslaught against our precious environment, and stop corporations from bleeding us dry for their own selfish ends.

Oh, yeah, and to the obots, if there are any here:  "WE TOLD YOU SO!"no

I always thought Nader was a guy who no one took seriously. He always had good points, but unfortunately he was overlooked. There is a good point to what he says.

“This is the third television generation,” Nader said. “They have grown up watching screens. They have not gone to rallies. Those are history now. They hear their parents and grandparents talk about marches and rallies. They have little toys and gizmos that they hold in their hands. They have no idea of any public protest or activity. It is a tapestry of passivity.
