(is this our future?)NHS health check: Facts and figures (BBC 10/08)

Is this our future?  A government "Commission" watching and reporting on our National Health System (NHS)?  As reported in October '08 by the BBC; a UK NHS report shows which groups are going to be watched more closely..... and why.  Note how the "failing" grades that denote the Commission will take a bigger role in "watching" are for those clinics failing in the financial areas also.  So "Commission" is not about watching out for the British citizen and making sure they are receiving good quality of care.   It's about what is the cheapest way to give the "quality" care.  Can anyone say justified RATIONING?

NHS health check: Facts and figures

The Care Quality Commission has published its in-depth analysis of the performance of England's 391 NHS trusts across a range of categories over the past year.

The watchdog assessed the trusts on a series of criteria, focusing on their quality of service and use of resources.

Each trust was graded either excellent, good, fair or weak.

The services measured included patient access, safety and the way the services are run.

The ratings reflect how well the organisation met basic standards of care and how they performed against existing and new national targets.

QUALITY OF SERVICES

Quality of services year comparison

The NHS is being praised for improving the services it provides.

The number of excellent performers has risen more than six-fold in the last two years. Meanwhile, just 5% are classed as weak.

The poorest performers will now be subject to monitoring by the Care Quality Commission.

USE OF RESOURCES

Basically, this is a measure of how well trusts are managing their finances.

Again the figures show an improvement in recent years as the health service has turned its deficit into a healthy surplus.

Performance is generally up for each of the four types of trusts. However, primary care trusts, which oversee community services such as GPs, are still struggling to achieve excellent ratings.

This is probably because as largely management organisations they have more targets to hit.

Hospitals, in particular, have upped their game on financial management in recent years. Two thirds are now excellent or good.

But the watchdog has flagged up the lack of rigour seen among ambulance trusts. These have recently been merged, which could partly explain the lack of any excellent performers. NHS chiefs will be expecting this to improve in future years.

I don't know thebword, but so many come from around the world for our healthcare. I'd hate to see our care drop to rationing.

NHS style care is not on the table in the U.S.

People go from the U.S. to other countries for care too but, you don't hear those stories on that side of the border. I am against the hype that gets spun. Also, if someone supposedly jumps a line from Canada and goes to the United States for care out of choice the Canadian government pays for that too. So, it's not exactly like you think it is. I had an article I was going to put on here but, haven't had time yet.

Obama's plan is actually a terrible plan any way you cut it. It is awful, it's a mish mash of unworkable baloney. It should be scrapped and go back to the table and get Hillary's plan or something that has been worked on for longer than five damned minutes and WILL actually work. Obama ONLY wants to shove his plan through because it rewards those who donated to him big time. It's NOT about YOUR health.

Thanks for the actual figures on the NHS quality figures. It looks like they have made some improvements in the last few years!

I haven't made up my mind yet on health care. This is one issue where I can see both sides but single payer is not the way we should go.
