Census Bureau severs ties with ACORN in 2010 count

WASHINGTON – The Census Bureau on Friday severed its ties with ACORN, a community organization that has been hit with Republican accusations of voter-registration fraud.

"We do not come to this decision lightly," Census director Robert Groves wrote in a letter to ACORN, which was obtained by The Associated Press.

In splitting with ACORN, Groves sought to tamp down GOP concerns and negative publicity that the partnership will taint the 2010 head count.

"It is clear that ACORN's affiliation with the 2010 census promotion has caused sufficient concern in the general public, has indeed become a distraction from our mission, and may even become a discouragement to public cooperation, negatively impacting 2010 census efforts," Groves wrote.

Stephen Buckner, a census spokesman, confirmed the letter, but declined additional comment.

I don't understand - they have already done the counting for the census, so how does severing ties in 2010 help?

ACORN has already counted the fake people they wanted added.

I don't think they would have done the counting yet, as 2010 is the year that that's supposed to happen.  But goodness knows WHAT they HAVE done - they're liars and cheaters and I wouldn't put ANYTHING past them!

I'd watch for their next move, because this is probably just a feint.no

This is super news!

Acorn will never be able to work with the Census Bureau again. 

I was dreading seeing Acorn knocking on my door in 2010 for the census. 

The way out of the mess that the country is in is to focus on the corruption. 

It is regular people that are making this happen, with the help of Fox News. 

The 9-12 project is today with everyday people gathering in DC.  It should be interesting to see what comes out of it . . .

Back in Apr or May we discussed the fact that they were changing their name to "Community Organizations International" Don't think for a minute they are going away, just coming for more under a new umbrella.
