Time: Democratic House Loss Will Lead To Many Key Democrats Retiring

Posted by JOE GANDELMAN, Editor-In-Chief in Politics.

One of the slogans during this campaign season used by some Republican activists has been “Retire Nancy Pelosi.” And according to Time Magazine, if the Democrats lose the House of Representatives — and virtually all major analysts believe that will happen — Pelosi and a slew of other Democrats may well indeedl actually retire, opening up the House to further GOP gains in 2012:

As Nancy Pelosi goes, so might a generation of her colleagues.

In other words: the day after elections pundits will be assessing the exact hideousness of the likely Democratic wipeout, and some are bound to note how in other political cycles the Democrats and Republicans seemed on the ropes, only to rise (like the GOP this year) again. Fair enough..

But there will be this issue lingering in the background: a lot of seats will open up…and the political landscape will be more open for partisan changes than ever.
