Rep. Patrick Kennedy Will Not Seek Re-Election

The decision by the eight-term congressman comes less than a month after a stunning Republican upset in the race for the Massachusetts Senate seat his late father, Edward Kennedy, held for almost half a century.

WASHINGTON  --  Rep. Patrick Kennedy has decided not to seek re-election to Congress, saying his life is "taking a new direction."

Kennedy taped a message to be aired on television in Rhode Island on Sunday night. The Associated Press viewed the message ahead of the announcement.

The decision by the eight-term congressman comes less than a month after a stunning Republican upset in the race for the Massachusetts Senate seat his late father, Edward Kennedy, held for almost half a century.

Patrick Kennedy has been in and out of treatment for substance abuse since crashing his car outside the U.S Capitol in 2006. Still, he has been comfortably re-elected twice since then, after making mental health care his signature issue.

WOW!!!! Talk about your "change". I don't think this is what Obama and the DNC had in mind. Thanks for posting this Sanders. I had a very long work day, and was unaware of this until I came to HW. You guys are always on top of the big stories. Thanks. BTW. VH, yes, I think we are gonna need Big Dawg as 1st gentleman. Yea!

Hope the Dems realize it was electing Obama, and all the following shenanigans by him and his crew, that ruined it for the Kennedys.  The Kennedys at least had a REPUTATION for caring about America.  Barack can't hide his contempt, nor can Reid ('those stinky tourists'), Nancy ('Obama will win no matter who gets the votes') and Donna ('just stay home for all we care').
